What was last year like and what can we expect from the new year?

Like every year, last year was very interesting in the world of cryptocurrencies. And what trends have moved the world the most? Let's remember them. These include memecoins, NFT, Play-To-Earn or Binance Smart Chain. Let us recall what these trends entailed.

Memecoin is cryptocurrency, which arose from internet mem. In October 2021, about 124 meme coins circulated on the market, the most important of them are Dogecoin or Shiba Inu. Dogecoin (DOGE) started as a joke a few years ago but now is one of the world's leading cryptocurrency projects with one of the strongest communities. Shiba Inu is one of the most powerful cryptocurrencies of last year, which earned some individuals millions of crowns.

NFT or a non-fungible token stands for transparent proof of ownership of a digital item, which is most often an image or video (as we wrote in a previous article about NFT). It's not just some kind of fun for a few people, but it's a really decent business today. For example, the world's largest NFT marketplace (OpenSea) is now worth about $ 13 billion as a company. CryptoPunks is one of the first NFT collections in the world and probably also the best known. One of the first Czech collections called CzechPunks includes NFT created on the motives of 103 people from the Czechoslovak cryptocurrency community.

Play-to-Earn model also gained great popularity last year. The point is that computer online game players can also make money from this activity. This model is the latest addition to the NFT market. These money-making games rely on blockchain technology, where you can sell the items you earn in the form of an NFT in a dedicated market.

And what can we expect in 2022?

The number of cryptocurrency holders is estimated to increase to 1 billion. In general, every beginning of the year is very favorable for bitcoin, so January should be profitable, but this may not be the rule. In January last year, Bitcoin strengthened by up to 36 %. Even some experts are convinced that January promises a strong market.

The NFT market is still on the rise

The strong growth of interest in non-fungible token (NFT) confirms its ever-increasing search on the Internet. Initially, the NFTs were referred to only as transient fads. But over time, this technology has proven to be a huge potential. The interest in the NFT has even surpassed the interest in Dogecoin, which has attracted investors around the world. In December, the "NFT" also surpassed Ethereum.

Conclusion on the current market situation

The first week of January saw a big drop in bitcoin. This is the worst week of January in history. The price of Bitcoin last climbed above $ 50,000 on December 27. Since then, the price has been falling every day. However, the situation is still not so bad and everything can change again with each passing day.
